As a kid, watching Saturday morning cartoons, I regularly settled into a bowl of Corn Flakes and watched countless commercials for Count Chocula and Frosted Flakes flash across the screen.
Now, my mother never bought these cereals – (and when I say never, I actually mean never!)
She didn’t even consider it – not even for a passing moment.
Her decision had nothing to do with dietary concerns over sugar content.
Her choice was 100% price driven!
Imagine my delight one Saturday morning when I opened the cabinet and sitting there, before my very eyes, was a shiny box of Cap’n Crunch!
Once the shock wore off, I instantly determined there was no way Cap’n Crunch was going to be making its way into ‘regular rotation’ – so, this is where I learned the concept of rationing.
Cap’n Crunch became a 10-year-old boy’s rare delicacy, enjoyed only on Saturdays – never during the week!
I’d fill a bowl with Corn Flakes and then strategically place 5 or 6 Cap’n Crunch pieces on top! (I think I stretched that box to nearly 4 months!)
