GOODY TWO SHOES ($130,000 – $175,000)

“The History of Little Goody Two Shoes” was published in 1765 and was intended as a moralistic tale for children.

The story revolves around a poor orphan girl named Margery Meanwell.

Margery is so poor, she only owns one shoe and is often overheard saying "Two shoes" instead of "A shoe," which leads to her being mockingly called "Goody Two Shoes." However, Margery's life takes a turn for the better when she is gifted a pair of shoes. She grows determined to learn and achieve more, eventually becoming a well-educated and successful woman.

The story emphasizes the value of education and hard work.

Over time, the term "Goody Two Shoes" came to be used informally to describe a person who is overly virtuous, self-righteous, or excessively moralistic, often in a derogatory way. It implies someone who behaves in a sanctimonious manner.

So, while the origin of "Goody Two Shoes" was intended to teach a moral lesson about the rewards of education and hard work, it evolved into a way to describe someone who is overly righteous or virtuous.
