During Game 6 of Major League Baseball’s NL Championship Series in 2003, a Chicago Cubs fan named Steve Bartman interfered with Cubs outfielder Moises Alou's attempt to catch a foul ball. His interference ostensibly cost the team a crucial out which led to their loss in the game, forcing a Game 7 that they also lost. Angry fans vilified Bartman and media outlets hounded him for interviews. He even received death threats which forced him to go into hiding. Despite this, he never spoke publicly about the incident and has become a symbol of the Cubs' curse. The team finally broke the curse by winning the World Series in 2016 – thirteen years later! That said, while we have your attention, Chantel Nightingale is looking for a Manager, Accounting & Assurance in Hamilton. This individual will focus on providing high-quality accounting, assurance, and consulting services for clients. POSITION: MANAGER, ACCOUNTING & ASSURANCE LOCATION: HAMILTON INDUSTRY: ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Prepare financial statements, letters, and communications for clients.

§ Review and correct accounting and assurance engagement files and financial statements

§ Schedule and coordinate assurance engagements and related events.

§ Plan engagements to ensure accounting and auditing standards are met.

§ Review work in progress and workflow of assigned staff members.

§ Maintain high quality control when reviewing work done by other team members.

§ Monitor project timelines against targets and advise clients of project status.

§ Assist with technical accounting issues and act as a point of contact for audit and accounting assistance.

§ Prepare and review corporate and personal tax returns.

§ Assist in practice inspections and assess quality controls.

§ Communicate and maintain relationships with clients, Canada Revenue Agency, lawyers, and bankers.

§ Contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs.

§ Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.

REQUIREMENTS:

§ Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related equivalent degree.

§ A completed CPA designation.

§ Minimum of 5 years’ experience in public practice.

§ Advanced accounting, auditing and tax skills.

§ Demonstrated experience in business development and growth.

§ Experience with CaseWare, Caseview and TaxPrep considered an asset.

§ A team player able to rally resources and work with others to meet the needs of the client.

§ Strong commitment to professional and client service excellence.

§ Strong interest in coaching and development, with a commitment to personal growth.

§ Proven ability to deliver the full cycle of project management accountabilities.

§ Superior verbal and written communication skills.

§ Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.

§ Experienced with engagement problem diagnosis, solution development, client communications, decision making, documentation, managing client expectations and team leadership.

§ Ability to anticipate long-term impact of decisions and take comprehensive approach to problem-solving.

REMUNERATION:

SALARY: $95,000 – $125,000 OTHER: benefits + rrsp program + flexible work arrangements + vacation
