THE GOOD OL’ SWITCHEROO ($130,000 - 135,000+)

South Africa’s Comrades Marathon is among the oldest and most famous of ultramarathons. It’s a grueling 90-kilometer expedition from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Every year, 23,000 people enter the race. Most runners complete the course in about 12 hours – the elite competitors finish in less than half that time. In 1999, racing in his first ever Comrades Marathon, Sergio Motsoeneng shocked all onlookers – placing 8th. But something seemed fishy! Fellow competitor Nick Bester (who finished 15th) insisted he never saw Sergio pass him.

And, when a reporter published photographs of Sergio from the race, the deception was unveiled. The pictures revealed Sergio had switched his watch from his left wrist to his right wrist and had mysteriously grown a scar on his left shin. Upon further investigation, it turns out that 45 minutes into the race, Sergio stopped at a porta-potty where his brother, Fika was waiting. The two men exchanged clothes and shoes and Fika entered the race. Organizers determined the ‘good ‘ol switcheroo’ happened more than once over the competition. Sergio was instantly stripped of the prize money and banned from ultramarathons for the next 5 years. What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role? Nothing really.
