In October 2013, Chinese real estate developer Tan Youhui hired a hitman (Hitman #1) for $280,000 to eliminate his business rival, Mr. Wei, who had recently filed a lawsuit against him.
Instead of carrying out the hit, Hitman #1 kept half the money and subcontracted the job to Hitman #2 for $140,000. This pattern continued down the chain. Hitman #2 passed it to Hitman #3 for less, who then involved Hitman #4, and finally, Hitman #5 was offered $14,000, a mere 5% of the original fee. By the time the job reached Hitman #5, he had second thoughts. Instead of following through, he contacted Mr. Wei and proposed a plan to fake his death. They staged the murder, took photos, and sent them up the chain – each hitman passing the images to the one above.
Meanwhile, Mr. Wei alerted the police, leading to the arrests of all five hitmen and Tan Youhui. The developer was sentenced to five years in prison, while the hitmen received sentences ranging from two to four years. What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
