CHECKMATE ($150,000 – $200,000)

On July 19, 2022, in Moscow, a 7-year-old boy (ranked among the best players in the world, under age 9) squared off in a chess match – against a robot. The game progressed as every chess game does. The boy and the robot took turns moving their pieces around the chessboard. However, at one point the young boy responded too quickly for the robot’s liking! Almost instantly, the robot clamped down on the boy’s finger and would not let go.

Several adults intervened to assist, but not before the finger was broken! On a positive note, the boy was able to return to the competition, the following day. What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

That said, while you’re here, Mate Pavkovic has another new role! Our client, a well-established and respected law firm in Edmonton needs a Civil/Commercial Litigation Lawyer. The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years of experience in civil and commercial litigation, strong advocacy skills, and the ability to independently manage complex litigation files. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven legal professional to join a sophisticated practice and work on a diverse range of matters.

POSITION:   CIVIL / COMMERCIAL LITIGATION LAWYER LOCATION:  EDMONTON, ALBERTA

RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Manage a diverse caseload of civil and commercial litigation matters from inception through resolution.

·       Independently handle files, including pleadings, discoveries, motions, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and trials.

·       Conduct thorough legal research and prepare pleadings, applications, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.

·       Develop effective litigation strategies and provide practical legal advice to clients regarding their rights, risks, and available options.

·       Represent clients in court proceedings, mediations, arbitrations, and other dispute resolution processes.

·       Conduct examinations for discovery and prepare witnesses and clients for litigation proceedings.

·       Negotiate settlements and work toward commercially practical resolutions on behalf of clients.

·       Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders throughout the litigation process.

·       Manage deadlines, budgets, and competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of client service.

·       Stay current with developments in legislation, case law, and trends affecting civil and commercial litigation.

·       Contribute to business development initiatives and assist in developing and maintaining strong client relationships.

REQUIREMENTS

·       5 to 7 years of experience practicing civil and/or commercial litigation.

·       Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.

·       Strong experience independently managing litigation files.

·       Experience with discoveries, motions, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and trials.

·       Strong advocacy, negotiation, and dispute resolution skills.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·       Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

·       Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.

·       High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and sound judgment.

·       Strong client service and relationship-building skills.

·       Interest and/or experience in business development is considered an asset.
