DINGO BABY

2 min read

In 1980, nine-week-old Azaria Chamberlain disappeared from her family’s campsite near Uluru, Australia. Her mother, Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, immediately claimed that a dingo had snatched the baby from their tent. Few believed her.

What followed became one of Australia’s most notorious criminal cases. Lindy was accused of murdering her daughter and fabricating the dingo story. Despite fiercely maintaining her innocence, she was convicted of murder in 1982 and sentenced to life in prison. Her husband, Michael, was convicted as an accessory.

The case sparked a media frenzy and divided Australia. Prosecutors presented forensic evidence they said supported their theory that Lindy had killed Azaria.

Then, in 1986, everything changed.

A piece of Azaria’s clothing was discovered in a dingo den near the campsite, providing crucial evidence that supported Lindy’s original account.

After more than three years in prison, Lindy was released in 1988!

It would take another 32 years before a coroner finally ruled what Lindy had said from the beginning: Azaria had been taken by a dingo. What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

Nothing at all.

That said, while you’re here … a well-established Toronto personal injury law firm has asked Mate Pavkovic to help them find an experienced Tort Legal Assistant to join their team.
