In one of South Korea’s most baffling prison escapes, 50-year-old Choi Gap Bok left guards speechless and sparked a nationwide manhunt after vanishing from his locked cell without a trace.Arrested on September 12, 2012, for robbery, Choi seemed like any other detainee – quiet and cooperative. But beneath that calm was a man with 23 years of yoga training and a mind sharpened by patience.
For five days, he observed the guards’ routines and shift changes, waiting silently. Then, around 5:00 a.m. on September 17, he acted.
Guards found his cell empty during a routine check – no signs of forced entry, no broken locks. Just a locked door and no inmate. The mystery made headlines nationwide: How did he disappear?
Surveillance footage revealed the shocking truth: Choi applied ointment, lowered himself, and squeezed through the food tray slot – only 5.9 inches tall and 17.7 inches wide – in just 34 seconds!
The media quickly named him the “Korean Houdini.”But after six days on the run, authorities recaptured him and returned him to custody. What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
Nothing at all.
