“Milking something for all it’s worth” is a term used to describe getting as much as possible from a resource. And if you’re looking for someone who truly mastered the art of milkin’ it, look no further than Sergey Bubka. Born in Ukraine in 1963, Bubka became the most dominant pole vaulter in the world. So dominant, in fact, that sponsors eventually stopped paying athletes win bonuses. There was simply no point paying Bubka to win. He won everything!

Then Nike came along with a different deal.

They would pay Bubka tens of thousands of dollars every time he broke the world record.

So Bubka figured out how to make that arrangement work for him.

Between 1991 and 1994, he broke his own world record nine times.

And on seven of those occasions?

By just one centimetre.

Over his career, Bubka broke the world record 35 times, reportedly collecting at least $600,000 in bonuses along the way.

He wasn’t just breaking records.

He was milking them.

That said, while we have your attention, George Stankovic is looking for an Associate Lawyer (Construction) for his client’s firm in Kitchener. The client is a top-tier full-service law firm with offices across Canada and internationally, known for its work in corporate, litigation and IP law.

POSITION:    ASSOCIATE LAWYER (CONSTRUCTION LITIGATION)

LOCATION:  KITCHENER, ONTARIO RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Work closely with an experienced partner and litigation team on large, complex construction disputes.

·       Support a busy practice representing significant clients on high-value matters.

·       Take responsibility for substantive portions of files while collaborating closely with the broader team.

·       Develop litigation strategy and provide practical advice throughout the life of a matter.

·       Draft pleadings, motion materials, written submissions and other litigation documents.

·       Participate in discoveries, motions, settlement discussions, trial preparation and other advocacy matters.

·       Manage client relationships and communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel and other parties.

·       Balance multiple active matters while meeting deadlines in a fast-moving practice.

REQUIREMENTS:

·       2 to 6 years of construction litigation experience.

·       Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

·       Specific construction litigation experience; general commercial litigation experience alone is not sufficient.

·       Ability to hit the ground running in an established and very busy practice.

·       Experience working on large, complex files for significant clients.

·       Strong drafting, analytical, communication and client management skills.

·       Comfort working in a heavily team-based environment.

·       Ability to work three days per week from the Kitchener office.

REMUNERATION:

SALARY RANGE: $160,000 – $190,000 + performance bonus
