MOON BAG ($125,000 – $155,000)

2 min read

In February 2015, Nancy Lee Carlson of Illinois, purchased a bag for $995 from a US government auction website. The bag, which had been used to collect lunar samples during the historic Apollo mission in 1969, was later confirmed by NASA to be authentic and containing lunar dust.

At that point, NASA decided to reclaim ownership, arguing the bag had been auctioned in error and rightfully belonged to the American people. Despite a federal judge’s ruling in Carlson's favour, confirming her as the rightful owner, NASA still refused to return the bag.

Carlson filed a lawsuit in Texas, and in February 2017, she finally regained possession of the bag. She then auctioned it through Sotheby’s, where it sold for an astounding $1,800,000, highlighting the extraordinary journey of this moon relic from space to a legal showdown and back to a stellar financial triumph! What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?
