In early 1900s New York, a sharply dressed man approached newcomers with an extraordinary offer: full ownership of a prime piece of the city. He produced convincing legal documents, promised the right to collect tolls, and closed deals ranging from $75 to $50,000, (worth up to $1.8 million USD today).

Excited buyers went to claim their new property … only to be stopped by police.

Why? They had just “bought” the Brooklyn Bridge.

The seller was George C. Parker, one of America’s most audacious con men. He sold the bridge repeatedly, along with landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and Madison Square Garden, using forged documents, a convincing story and plenty of nerve.

Parker was eventually caught and died in prison in 1936.

That said, now that we have your attention, Mate Pavkovic is back at it! Our client, a leading international law firm with a strong Alberta presence, is seeking an experienced Insurance/Commercial Litigation Lawyer to join its sophisticated litigation practice in Calgary or Edmonton.

The ideal candidate will have experience handling complex insurance, coverage, and commercial litigation matters and be comfortable managing files independently while advising sophisticated domestic and international clients.

POSITION:    INSURANCE / COMMERCIAL LITIGATION LAWYER

LOCATION:   CALGARY OR EDMONTON RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Manage complex insurance, coverage, and commercial litigation files from inception through resolution.

·       Represent insurers, corporations, and sophisticated clients in high-value disputes.

·       Handle matters involving construction, professional liability, CGL, property, D&O, product liability, and other complex claims.

·       Conduct discoveries and appear at motions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, and trials.

·       Develop litigation strategy, negotiate settlements, and provide practical, commercially focused advice.

·       Build strong client relationships and contribute to business development.

·       Collaborate with experienced counsel on complex and multi-party matters.

REQUIREMENTS:

·       5+ years of experience in insurance defense, coverage, commercial litigation, or a combination thereof.

·       Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.

·       Proven ability to independently manage complex litigation files.

·       Experience with discoveries, motions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.

·       Strong insurance defense and coverage knowledge, with commercial litigation experience preferred.

·       Excellent advocacy, negotiation, communication, and client management skills.

·       Strong judgment, organization, and ability to manage competing priorities.

·       Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

·       Business development experience or interest is an asset.

REMUNERATION:

SALARY RANGE: $140,000 – $210,000
