In 1932, Australia declared war on emus. After a massive flock of emus descended on wheat farms in Western Australia, farmers were desperate. The emus were destroying crops, and nothing seemed to stop them.
In response, the government sent in soldiers with machine guns to take care of the problem. The military thought the emus would be no match for their firepower.
However, things didn’t go as planned. The emus were surprisingly fast and agile, dodging bullets and scattering in groups. The soldiers found it nearly impossible to hit them.
After weeks of failed attempts, the Great Emu War was officially a failure. The emus won, and the soldiers were forced to retreat. It became one of the most absurd and embarrassing episodes in Australian history.
What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role? Absolutely nothing. That said, while you’re here, George Stankovic is working on two contract recruiter roles. One in Edmonton and one in Toronto. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 - 2 years of recruitment experience and the ability to handle high-volume hiring. Exposure to or interest in labour relations (considered an asset) POSITION: RECRUITER (CONTRACT) DURATION: 6 to 12 MONTHS (POSSIBLY PERMANENT) LOCATION: EDMONTON & TORONTO
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manage the full recruitment cycle: job posting, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding
· Utilize Isom and Domo systems to manage recruitment data and reporting
· Track and support compliance-related documentation (e.g. work permits, security licenses)
· Conduct background checks and validate work eligibility
· Ensure hiring processes follow applicable employment standards and licensing laws
· Use recruitment tools and platforms (Indeed, LinkedIn, etc.) to source and engage candidates
· Perform administrative duties using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
REQUIREMENTS:
· 1 – 2 years of experience in recruitment or talent acquisition
· Exposure to or interest in labour relations (considered an asset)
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume hiring environment
· Strong communication and administrative skills
· Proficiency with recruitment systems and online sourcing tools
REMUNERATION:
HOURLY: $25.00
