Ferdinand Waldo Demara, born December 21, 1921, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, didn’t just bend the truth, he lived inside it. History remembers him as The Great Impostor – a man who treated identity like a costume closet.

His greatest performances included:

The Monk: In the 1940s, he lived as Brother John, wearing the robe without the vows. The Surgeon: In the 1950s, he became “Dr. Joseph Cyr,” a U.S. Navy surgeon who cut into real patients aboard the USS Orleans (and got promoted), before being cut out himself.

The Teacher and Psychologist: With nothing but charm and nerve, he passed as both, convincing students and patients alike.

Eventually, the curtain fell. Demara was exposed, arrested, and after prison, tried to live more quietly until his death on June 7, 1982. What does this have to do with Match and Fable’s latest role?

SUMMARY:Our client is a well-established, full-service law firm based in Toronto with a team of over 50 lawyers. The firm provides a broad range of legal services, including business law, litigation, real estate, employment, family law, tax, wills and estates, and more. POSITION:      COMMERCIAL LITIGATION LAWYER INDUSTRY:     LEGAL LOCATION:    TORONTO, ONTARIO

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Manage a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract, commercial lease enforcement, employment, injunctions, shareholder disputes, real estate, and construction lien matters

·         Oversee files independently from start to finish, ensuring efficiency and high-quality service

·         Draft pleadings, motions, and other litigation documents

·         Conduct examinations, attend mediations, and appear in court on contested matters

·         Provide strategic advice and advocacy to clients throughout the litigation process

·         Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to business development initiatives

REQUIREMENTS:

·         8+ years’ experience in commercial litigation

·         Demonstrated ability to manage complex files independently

·         Strong advocacy, litigation, and negotiation skills

·         Experience with drafting, examinations, mediations, and court appearances

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a client-service focus

·         Ability to build strong professional relationships and contribute to firm growth

REMUNERATION:

SALARY: $175,000 – $200,000
