THE GREAT STORK DERBY ($70,000 – $85,000)

On October 31, 1926, a wealthy Canadian lawyer named Charles Vance Millar, died.

A 72-year-old bachelor with no children, Millar inserted an extremely unusual clause into his last will and testament. Ultimately, he bequeathed the bulk of his significant estate to the woman who would birth the most babies in Toronto, in the decade following his death.

What followed was an unprecedented baby boom which came to be known as, the ‘Great Stork Derby of Toronto’!

It made headlines around the world, and in the end, four women received $125,000 each (the equivalent of $2 million dollars by today’s measure) for having nine children in that 10-year span!

A leading Toronto intellectual property law firm has asked Mate Pavkovic to help them find an experienced Trademark Assistant/Clerk to join their team. The successful candidate will support legal professionals in trademarks and copyright, managing deadlines, client instructions, documentation, and day-to-day administrative requirements. This is an excellent opportunity to join a sophisticated IP practice serving a diverse international client base. TRADEMARK ASSISTANT / CLERK – TORONTO THE ROLE:

·       Provide administrative and legal support to professionals in trademark and copyright matters.

·       Manage trademark deadlines, files, documentation, and client instructions.

·       Prepare and process trademark and copyright correspondence and documentation.

·       Communicate with clients, foreign associates, agents, and other professional contacts.

·       Coordinate and prioritize work for multiple professionals while ensuring deadlines are met.

·       Maintain accurate, organized electronic files and document management systems.

·       Assist with invoicing, accounts follow-up, and other day-to-day administrative tasks.

·       Support copyright and marketing/advertising matters, as required.

·       Collaborate with assistants, clerks, and legal professionals across the practice.

WHAT YOU BRING:

·       2–5 years of trademark experience with relevant legal training.

·       Strong knowledge of trademark administration, docketing, deadline management, and legal software.

·       Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

·       Proactive, independent, and client-focused with strong communication skills.

·       Copyright and marketing/advertising experience is an asset.

·       French/English bilingualism is an asset.

REMUNERATION:

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 – $85,000 + comprehensive benefits
