THE MAILBOX ($160,000 – $190,000+)

Apollo 13, 1970. An oxygen tank blew apart 200,000 miles from home, and the crew abandoned the crippled command module for the lunar lander – a machine built to keep two men alive for two days, now asked to keep three alive for four! It started poisoning them slowly: CO2 climbing, no way to stop it, because the lander's scrubber slots were round and the only spare canisters on board were square. Wrong shape, no adapter, nothing in the design manual for "make these fit."

So, a team on the ground had a few hours to invent one anyway – out of a plastic bag, a sock, a page torn from a flight manual and a roll of duct tape, jury-rigged into a contraption they nicknamed "the mailbox." They talked the astronauts through building it while the numbers climbed. It looked like trash. It sealed. CO2 dropped back to safe within hours, and the fix flew with them the rest of the way home.

That said, while we have your attention, George Stankovic is looking for a seasoned Litigation Associate (Recovery Services) for his client’s firm in Hamilton. The client is a top-tier full-service law firm with offices across Canada and internationally, known for its work in corporate, litigation and IP law.

POSITION:    LITIGATION ASSOCIATE (RECOVERY SERVICES)

LOCATION:   HAMILTON, ONTARIO RESPONSIBILITIES:

·       Manage a busy caseload of debt recovery, enforcement and mortgage enforcement matters.

·       Take independent carriage of files from initial instruction through resolution.

·       Appear regularly in court and handle motions, hearings and other advocacy matters.

·       Develop litigation strategy and provide timely, practical advice to clients.

·       Draft pleadings, motion materials, written submissions and other litigation documents.

·       Manage client relationships and communicate effectively throughout the life of a file.

·       Work closely with experienced partners on complex matters while maintaining ownership of day-to-day files.

·       Contribute to a collaborative Recovery Services team operating across a national platform.

REQUIREMENTS:

·       4 to 6 years of litigation experience; a strong third-year associate may also be considered.

·       Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

·       Demonstrated courtroom and advocacy experience.

·       Ability to independently manage litigation files and a busy caseload.

·       Strong drafting, analytical, communication and client management skills.

·       Comfort working in a fast-moving, high-volume practice.

·       Ability to work independently while contributing to a close-knit team.

·       Ability to work regularly from the Hamilton office, with additional in-office time expected during training.

·       Financial services litigation, collections, insolvency or enforcement experience is an asset but not required.

REMUNERATION:

SALARY RANGE: $160,000 – $190,000 + performance bonus
