In July 2000, 13-year-old Cody Clawson got separated from his Boy Scout group while hiking near Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming. No map. No signal. Just endless trees and rising panic.
The search to find Cody began at first light. Helicopters joined the effort with one helicopter being flown by a seasoned local volunteer pilot.
By midday, Cody, dehydrated and exhausted, scrambled up a ridge, hoping to spot something. That’s when he heard the sound – the deep, steady beat of a helicopter.
He waved wildly. The aircraft spotted him and touched down nearby. The door opened… and out stepped a man in jeans, calm and commanding.
“Need a ride?” he asked.
Cody stared. It was Harrison Ford.
Yes, that Harrison Ford! Indiana Jones. Han Solo.
Ford, a longtime Jackson Hole resident and trained pilot, had volunteered to assist local authorities with the rescue mission – and it was his helicopter that found Cody.
